Ted Muehling, born in New Jersey in 1953, studied industrial design at the Pratt Institute in New York. Since 1976 he has been designing jewellery and objects that are inspired by natural shapes. "I try to limit my vocabulary of forms by abstracting forms from nature and transforming them into objects that are beautiful and work well." Since 1999 he has designed a large number of collections and objects for Nymphenburg: vases, votives and candlesticks, the marine collection and the white coral service, which draw inspiration from corals, leaves and branches in both shape and texture. Muehling has received numerous prizes for his work, including the Chrysler Design Award and the American Fashion Coty Award.
