Judy Ledgerwood
Judy Ledgerwood studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati in Ohio and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Illinois. In her work, she combines concrete abstraction with influences from traditionally feminine areas of popular culture, such as fashion or textile design, and stages the elements in intense color. In her painting, Ledgerwood expands the boundaries of concrete abstraction to include the subversive aspect of sensuality. The artist became known for abstract paintings reminiscent of landscape painting in "feminine" pastel tones. Since the 1990s, she has concretized the vocabulary of her compositions to the simple basic forms of circle and square, which she groups in intense color to create vibrantly sensual compositions.
