Elephant

A delightful little elephant with its trunk raised – lifelike, expressive and, at the same time, characterised by great technical precision. Crafted from white bisque porcelain, the delicate modelling is shown to its best advantage without any glaze or colour.

The artist Luise Terletzki-Scherf created numerous animal figures for the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory. She experimented with various materials such as bronze, majolica and stone. However, it is only in the fine body of the in-house Nymphenburg porcelain that her sculptures reveal their particular lightness and sculptural precision. For her depictions of animals, the artist undertook intensive studies of nature, which lend her figures a remarkable vitality.

The little elephant combines natural grace with Terletzki-Scherf’s characteristic, timeless design language and is a charming collector’s item for lovers of extraordinary animal sculptures.
