Model Room
The model room is the heart of the manufactory. This is where the plaster molds for casting all non-round porcelain parts are made. The production process requires a great deal of know-how and a high degree of technical skill. Large and complex Nymphenburg designs in particular have to be cast in individual elements and then assembled. A separate plaster mold is made for each element, which can then be reused up to 15 times. Each mold is cast from an original model and then painstakingly reworked by hand. While the bottom of the plaster mold consists of one piece, the top is divided into several wedge pieces. They can be removed one after the other after casting. This is the only way to ensure that the still moist porcelain can be removed from the mold undamaged.
