Majolica figurines and tiles have been produced by hand in Nymphenburg using traditional methods for around 170 years. For this, the terracotta is covered with a white tin glaze after the first firing and painted with bright colors. During the subsequent firing, the color and glaze melt together, and the reddish background shines delicately through the painting. Thanks to the development of special paints and glazes, Nymphenburg has succeeded in avoiding cracks in the surface of the majolica, thus guaranteeing its durability, frost resistance and weather resistance. The extraordinary size and bright colors are also among the special characteristics of Nymphenburg majolica, which are unparalleled internationally.
