King Ludwig I
During the reign of King Ludwig I, Munich became an internationally renowned art center. Together with Leo von Klenze and Friedrich von Gärtner, Ludwig I was responsible for the planning and design of the Ludwigstrasse, Feldherrenhalle, Siegestor, Königsplatz, as well as the Old and New Pinakothek. Nymphenburg also benefits from his assumption of office. As Crown Prince he had raised the manufactory to the rank of State Art Institute in 1815, and from 1822 Friedrich von Gärtner shaped the company's fortune as artistic director. To document the most important works of art, Ludwig I had plates and platters commissioned from the manufactory. The events of the Bavarian Revolution and the affair about his relationship with the Spanish dancer Lola Montez forced King Ludwig I to abdicate in 1848.
