Kiki Smith

Kiki Smith, born 1954 in Nuremberg, lives and works in New York. In her works, she turns the inside out by also addressing the "hidden" of the body, such as bodily fluids, digestive organs and excrement in her sculptures and installations. Since 2000, nature, mammals and fairy-tale motifs have become the subject of her work. The light bulb is also a central, recurring leitmotif in the artist's oeuvre. Taking "serendipity" and the "happy idea" as her point of departure, she poses the symbolic question of how creative ideas, as the source of creative inspiration, can be communicated, conveyed, and translated. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and has been a participant in the Venice Biennale and the Whitney Museum.
