When Egbert Freiherr von Maltzahn takes over the management of Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg, the company opens up to the outside world. For the first time, public tours take place and information days are held for the press, film and television. From 1999 onwards, contemporary, partly avant-garde forms find their way into the collection. Freiherr von Maltzahn succeeds in winning internationally renowned designers and artists, including Konstantin Grcic, Hella Jongerius, Khashayar Naimanan and Ted Muehling, for collaboration with Nymphenburg. He entrusts the design of the flagship store on Munich's Odeonsplatz to Konrad Ellerhorst. In 2001, at his instigation, Corine, a character from Franz Anton Bustelli's COMMEDIA DELL ARTE, becomes the prize trophy of the henceforth annual "International Book Prize".
