Pick of the bunch

FOR BODY AND SOUL

Why do we sometimes stop doing things that bring us joy? Riding a bike hands-free? Dancing with abandon until the birds begin to sing? Playing hide-and-seek? Easter is an opportunity to look for some of that lightness again—and to find it. Because while the last Easter egg may still turn up months later, tucked behind the spines of Hegel, Homer, or Siri Hustvedt, it is never too late to let a sense of carefree ease come back to life, if only for a moment. Let yourself glide through the holidays, the festive days, and this special Sunday.

INGENIOUS
Every holiday has its rituals—and Easter may well be the most spirited of them all. Traditionally, it begins with brunch. Perhaps you are just setting out for that blend of breakfast and lunch? Or returning from a generous gathering that started in the morning and unfolded into the afternoon with ever new creations? We have looked to the South for inspiration, serving, among other things, Colomba from Sicily, magiritsa from Greece, and Andalusian rosquillas for Easter brunch. This hybrid meal is said to have originated around 1895, according to the Encyclopedia of American Food and Drink. In Hunter’s Weekly, the British writer, hunter, and bon vivant Guy Beringer promoted the combination of breakfast and lunch as the ideal weekend routine: “A brunch is cheerful, sociable and stimulating. It puts you in a good mood; you are satisfied with yourself and your fellow beings. It sweeps away the worries and the dust of the week.”
Hopefully, this Sunday feels the same for you.

INVITATION
Cheerfulness, stimulation, good company—and a few colorful birds—await you at our traditional Walk in the Park. From May 8 to May 10, we once again open the doors of the Porzellan Manufaktur to our historic workshops and our enchanting garden. Three days during which you can look over the shoulders of artisans in the shaping workshop, discover special treasures, and immerse yourself in the quietly mysterious world of porcelain history.
We have prepared a special program this year, and can already reveal one highlight: Michelin-starred chef Bobby Bräuer will offer a takeaway window with Mmmmmh Michelin delights. Make a note of the date—after all, anticipation is the greatest pleasure.

EILEEN LAUBINGER: MY FAVORITE PIECE
It is quite possible that, come May, butterflies will drift gracefully through the garden during Walk in the Park. Those who prefer not to rely on chance encounters can bring these delicate creatures—symbols of freedom and the beauty of life—home with the Papilio service. The plate is a favorite piece of porcelain painter Eileen Laubinger, who brings these fragile beings to life with brush and color. “No two are alike; they emerge spontaneously and seem ready to flutter away at any moment,” says the 32-year-old, who began her training at the Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg in 2012—and has remained in Munich ever since, a city where, in a sense, it always feels a little like Sunday. The Hamburg native finds her own sense of freedom when returning to her hometown: “My path always leads me to the Elbe beach at Övelgönne—that’s where I can breathe most deeply.”
