Sigmund Imperial Count of Haimhausen
In 1751, Elector Max III Joseph appointed the Imperial Count of Haimhausen as Obrist-Münzmeister and Ober-Bergdirektor. Jointly responsible for the founding of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and later its president, Haimhausen became an important promoter of early industry in Bavaria. For the Porzellan Manufaktur, his work was of existential importance: after years of unsuccessful attempts to produce high-quality porcelain, Elector Max III Joseph had discontinued financial support. Between 1751 and 1755, Count Haimhausen invested almost 10,000 gulden out of his own pocket. It was only through his personal commitment and the hiring of the arcanist Joseph Jakob Ringler in 1753 that the production of genuine porcelain in the manufactory succeeded one year later. It was under his own control until 1793.
